"Hey, what's going on folks is your man Mike "Doc" Rannigan and we are at it again with another series of frequently asked questions.
A great question that has come up time and time again is what is this whole talk about supplements when doing an insurance claim and here at Doc's we take the time out to go over what the settlement process is with our clients.
So a supplement is anything that a contractor finds during the roof replacement process, the Gutter Replacement process, or any other line item on your insurance claim that was not originally on the insurance paperwork when the adjuster came out. So what happens is, if we are removing the shingles from your roof, we removed all your felt paper and we noticed that the decking has become saturated, rotted, or unusable, we're able to contact your insurance company and say hey, this is the current situation backed up by photos to get the insurance company to pay for new decking to go back down. Because as a good contractor, we're never going to shingle over a piece of decking that is rotten.
Other forms of supplements would be your gutters, detach and reset. So say there was no damage found on your gutters. But in order to replace the drip edge around the perimeter of your home, we need to remove the gutters and reattach those gutters once the roof is completed. So we'll ask your insurance company to pay for that. Other supplements can include your chimney cap, windows screens, maybe there was hail damage to your facia board. So the list could go on and on. But the most important thing to remember is that whatever contractor you choose takes the additional steps to ensure that you're getting paid out by your insurance company for what it's worth. We do not our clients to be underpaid; We want them to get paid for everything that they deserve because you pay your premium every single month.
